If you need a chuckle (and we all do), check out the web site of The Dan Band. If you’ve seen ‘Old School’ or ‘Starsky & Hutch’, you’ve seen The Dan Band. My friend Charlie shot me a note recommending them. They have a great Flash site. Find your way to the Extras section and check out the Video and Audio. They have the video clips from their movie appearances. You gotta love the Old School clip, where, as the wedding band, they bust out a hilarious version of “Total Eclipse of the Heart”: “every now and then I get little bit terrified, I see the f**ng look in your eyes…”
It’ll put a smile on your face.

I had to share this little excerpt from comedian David Cross‘ latest CD, ‘It’s Not Funny’ [Buy It]…. he’s talking about the music that becomes popular during war time, namely the country stuff. I’ll let David take it from here…
Warning to you: if you are offended by obscene language, or just easily offended in general, or really love Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA”, don’t listen to this.

No disrespect intended, but for some reason, since the passing of the Pope yesterday at the age of 84, this Monty Python classic from ‘The Life of Brian’ has been swirling in my head. I am not very religious by nature. I grew up going to an Episcopal church, which is sort of like Diet Catholic. But, whatever your opinions of the Catholic church, the Pope was a always a champion of Peace in this world, something sorely missing.
So in the spirit of good nature, don’t forget to “Always Looks on the Bright Side of Life” (as interpreted by Mr. Bruce Cockburn).

I’ve had several searches today for Elvis’ “laughing” version of “Are You Lonesome Tonight”. I’m thinking it’s because Howard Stern played it a couple of times on his show this morning (once with Lisa Marie in the studio).
So here’s a re-post.

Well Tuesday has come and gone, and for those of us who need a chuckle to get us through a long week, even at the expense of Ol’ J.C., I offer up the Beat Farmers‘ quite humorous tune: “Are You Drinkin’ With Me Jesus?”. The Beat Farmers formed in San Diego, California in 1983. They were a cult favorite until their untimely demise in 1995, when their charismatic lead singer and band leader Country Dick Montana had a massive heart attack and up & died at a bar in Whistler, British Columbia.
But they left behind some gems, including this song, which starts:
Do you nestle by my barstool
Makin’ me so calm within
Have you touched me with your warmness
Or have I wet myself again?
Good stuff. Sacrilege? Blasphemy? Hogwash! This song reaches out to J.C . in a way that would make Mel Gibson proud.

I’d love to find out more info on this (e.g. where and when)… this is Elvis performing “Are You Lonesome Tonight” and experiencing a fit of uncontrollable laughter for most of the song. Quality stuff.
