Pete: your post just hit bone. I am a massive Band fan…if I could have been in any band at any time, it would be The Band.

I own this sucker in almost every conceivable package: Vinyl, the Deluxe Box Set on CD, the Anniversary Re-Release of the movie…on tape!

You pulled some choice cuts. Here are my bow-down performance picks:

Robbie and Clapton trading towering solos on “Further on Up the Road”, The Weight with the Staple Singers (Mavis puts a great “unh-hunh” in that version) and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down”.

That last one wins my award for “song with most plays at stupid-loud volumes at the wee hours of the morning after being out all night drinking”. Believe, me it is a long and prestigious list, too.

I have been listening to this Nebraskan for many years. Every album in his catalog is a treat. Go back and get 1972. Almost everysong on the album is great.

FInally got around to listening to this. Not as bad as I thought it was gonna be, but…quite generic. Brit male R&B singers tend to be one shot and out here in America…he’ll probably go the same way as Craig David and Mark Morrison before him.

Pete: this is a great book. I love all of Guralnick’s work. Have you read “Lost Highway” & “feel Like Going Home”? A great collection of profiles on artist that impacted music forever more.

The one I really love is “Sweet Soul Music”. Wow…I learned so much about the Soulful South from this. You should read this one next.

My next Guralnick book will be “Searching for Robert Johnson”.

Ok, it is Saturday, so I will make this my Saturday six, because I can.

Tracy Chapman-Times They are a Changing. This is probably the only song by Tracy Chapman I own, and probably the only one I even remotely like. Not off to a good start!

Jackson Brown-Bright Baby Blues. Some redemption. One of his better songs, and he has many.

Johnny Cash-Balshazzar, from Love, God, Money. Now we are talking. This song sizzles.

Allison Krausse-Baby, Now That I have Found You. A beautiful song, beautifully sung.

Gregg Allman-Catfish Blues. Eh.

Paul Kelly-Dumb Things. What a great way to end. I love this song.
