Now Hear This

Our Inbox is filled every day with emails from artists spreading the good word of their music. Unfortunately, day jobs get in the way, and we don’t have time to give everyone a fair listen.
So this page is for those bands & artists. Post a comment here if you want Ickmusic’s readers to give a listen. Posting a link to a mp3 or a way to listen to your music is a plus.

Ascent is a progressive, alternative, original duo, influenced by progressive, blues, and rock music. Each Ascent recording possesses its own unique character, encompassing acoustic beauty, electronic textures, melodic simplicity, and orchestral complexity.
Ascent’s sound is truly unique transcending age, cultures, and stereotypes. Ascent does not bow to fads and refuses to conform to the pop formula obvious in much of today’s music. Instead, Ascent embraces beauty, tragedy, triumph, and sorrow through experimental and melodic music.

MISSING WHITE WOMEN are a band formed in 2009 from North-West London. They like to make noise that isn’t quite like anything else around today, influenced by bands such as Sonic Youth, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, My Bloody Valentine and The Cooper Temple Clause, they are often described as schizophrenic, dark, moody and atmospheric, with frequent outbursts of noise, aggression and vitality.
The band name is taken from a vernacular term for the disproportionately greater degree of coverage in television, radio, and print news reporting of a missing person case involving a young, attractive, middle or upper middle class white woman, compared with cases concerning a missing male, or missing persons of other races or classes.
The four songs that you can listen to form our first EP that we recorded live in our rehearsal room using two Condenser mics. We then overdubbed vocals and mixed it ourselves; paying for it to be mastered once we had finished.

The Throws are an independent band from SoCal. Influenced heavily by british bands, they just dropped their first single, “Invitation”. If MGMT and The Killers had a kid…. they might wish she was kinda like The Throws.

Joseph Strider was born in Texas where he began his lifelong journey as a singer/song writer. His influences are wide-ranging, from his Lipan Apache heritage and hard rock roots to the music of such guitar masters as Bruce Cockburn, Michael Hedges and Andre Segovia. He spent six years touring Texas as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist in a rock/metal band. His growing knowledge, experience and love of music led him to the acoustic guitar, the instrument that would travel with him on the next leg of his journey. He has blended his beginnings, resulting in music with a folk/alternative twist and the sound that is uniquely Joseph Strider.
He is an experienced musician who enjoys performing his extensive repertoire of original material as well as variations of his favorite covers. In addition to his melodic vocals and rhythms, he executes a number of dazzling instrumentals played with the signature style that he continues to develop. His dream is to one day become a guitarist’s guitarist, to achieve a mastery of his art that allows him to utilize the full potential of his chosen instrument. His efforts to attain his dream are mesmerizing to experience.
After an unfortunate absence Joseph re-emerged on the music scene in Cranford, New Jersey at the annual Peace Fair in August of 2008. From that moment to the present he has never failed to delight audiences with his multi-faceted compositions and dynamic stage presence.
Joseph’s heritage is as much a part of who he is as his music. He is a staunch supporter of Indigenous issues, volunteering his time and musical talents to assist in the effort to educate society on the atrocities commited against the People of the First Nations throughout history and today.
Joseph’s debut cd, “Meanings Within Meanings Within Meanings” will be available for online sale December 2009. “Little Bird” will be released summer 2010.
Joseph is currently at work on a concept album titled “The Journey” and an as yet untitled instrumental album.
And the journey continues………………………..

Hey there Ick!
We are Midnight Spin, a rock band from the hipster haven of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NYC. We sound nothing like our neighborhood, being that we are a guitar driven guitar rock band and were raised on 90s alternative music. We are shooting a music video with friends from MTV for our song “In the Air (Revival)”, and are playing our next show in Manhattan at the buzz-heavy Santos Party House. Check out our MySpace, if you dig the music, buy us on iTunes! Our EP is called Through the Mojo Wire. Influences of ours are Foo Fighters, The Clash.

Hello ickmusic!
I like the eclecticness (if that’s a word?) of your blog!
I release some fairly eclectic music myself, under the moniker of Blimp.
The music is fairly mellow, semi-quirky, but catchy stuff that has been described as somewhere between The Beatles, Vic Chesnutt, Gram Parsons and Nino Rota.
If you’d like, you can hear some of it online here: http://www.myspace.com/blimpmusic
Also, you can visit me here: http://www.blimpmusic.com
Cheers,
