Friday Five

The Friday Five: February 20, 2009

We are indeed drifting into the arena of the shuffle.

Short list today, we’ll return to ‘normal’ next week…

For those who have not joined in the Friday Five here is all you need to know; each Friday I hit the shuffle button on my iTunes and share my five and drop a little knowledge and insight for each track. Sometimes there is a playlist involved, sometimes there isn’t. Sometimes we have guest, but most of the time it’s just me.

The rest is up to you, our friends and readers! Fire up your media player of choice and share the first five random track of your shuffle in the comments. The more the merrier!

The Five:

Ribbons” (mp3) – The Sisters of Mercy (from Vision Thing, 1990)

“Vocab” – Fugees (from Blunted on Reality, 1994)

Walk on the Wild Side” (mp3) – Lou Reed (from Transformer, 1972)

“Lovers Forever” – Brothers Johnson (from Out of Control, 1984)

“Fields of Coal” – …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead (from The Century of Self, 2009)

    1. Dr. Dooom – Housing Authority
For a period in the late 1990s, Kool Keith was fucking fire in the hip hop game. Can’t say much for his work after Matthew. He’s resurrected both the Dr. Octagon and Dr. Dooom personas, but it’s seems like he’s stretching at this point.

    2. Lupe Fiasco – Go Go Gadget
I liked this album a lot when it came out, but I think I overplayed it. This is still a hot track though.

    3. Prince – Poom Poom

    Heh

    4. Aceyalone – Suicide

Thanks to Pete for this one.

    5. Public Enemy – So Whatcha Gone Do Now?
I’m always surprised at how enjoyable Muse-Sick-N-Hour-Mess-Age actually is. Not their best material, but a good spin.

    Pretty solid this week! Woot!

    1. Lovely 2 C U–Goldfrapp from Supernature, 2005. I’m not a huge fan but she has some great dance/workout tunes.

    2. In Bloom–Tristan Prettyman from Hello, 2008.

    3. Go Your Own Way–Fleetwood Mac from Rumors, 1977. Classic.

    4. Makeup Artist–Marching Band from Spark Large, 2008. Great little pop song.

    5. A Little Bit More–Jamie Lidell from Multiply, 2006. I had the song for a while but now I can only think about the Target commercial its in.
