I’ve just discovered Bruce’s rendition of Tougher Than The Rest from the same concert. I desperately needed to contact someone else who recognises the depth in Bruce’s performance that night.

The HT/LT tour was the first time I ever saw Bruce live. I’ll always have a fondness for those albums, especially Lucky Town. “Book of Dreams”, “If I Should Fall Behind” and “My Beautiful Reward” all rank up there as some of my favorites.

Y’know, listening to this after watching the MTV Plugged show last night, I’m starting to wonder why this period of Bruce’s career gets such a bum rap. Maybe I have more affection than most for it because I really discovered his music around this time (I was only 7 or 8 when BUSA came out), and sure he didn’t have the E Street Band with him, but songs like “Red Headed Woman” and “Soul Driver” (as well as “Lucky Town”, “Local Hero”,”If I Should Fall Behind”, “Better Days”, etc.) have actually held up pretty well…
