A Nudge in the Right Direction

It’s been an odd day of departures in the music world today. First the news that Kevin DuBrow of Quiet Riot was found dead in his Las Vegas home on Sunday. Then not an hour later the news that Casey Calvert of Hawthorne Heights was found dead on the band’s tour bus on Saturday. Now I’m not generally the superstitious type, but if I were Amy Winehouse or Pete Dougherty I’d be taking the day off and hiding under the covers.

I think Amy heard you loud and clear – NME reports she finally scrapped her tour. I hope she uses the time her husband is in jail to sleep, and rest, and dry out. I just watched her stellar new DVD, taped much earlier this year. Even then, she’s slurring her words while rambling in between songs, but when she sings, it is magic. The real gem on that disc is the hour-long documentary which traces her rise and fall. She used to look/sound so healthy. Sad, someday Blake Fiedler Civil will join the Mark David Chapman club of lost souls who silenced incredible artists.

Well, with Amy being a huge Ickmusic fan…

In all honesty I couldn’t agree more. Amy is an amazing talent and hopefully she’ll take this time to reflect and renew.
