Ticket Giveaway: Late Night at the Compound with Steve Kimock & Crazy Engine

What are you up to this weekend? If you can make your way to north Scottsdale’s Compound Grill, you’ll find the surroundings taken over by the McDowell Mountain Music Festival. Vehicles will be kicked to the curb, sod will be laid down, a big stage will go up, and the people… they will come. Look forward to sets by Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, Trombone Shorty, Robert Randolph & the Family Band and others (see MMMF’s site for full lineup details).

Late Saturday night (showtime @ 11pm), within the cozy confines of the Compound Grill, Bay Area guitar whiz Steve Kimock will take the stage with his new band, Crazy Engine. Steve has been part of the jam/psychedelic/prog rock scene for a number of years. He co-founded Zero in the 80’s, formed his own Steve Kimock Band in 2000, and has played a part in Bob Weir’s Ratdog, Phil Lesh & Friends, and the Other Ones.

Joining Steve in Crazy Engine is longtime Jerry Garcia Band member Melvin Seals on Hammond B-3 and keys, Trevor Extor on bass and vocals, and his 22-year old son John Morgan Kimock on drums.

I’ll be there enjoying the show, so why don’t you? I’m giving away a pair of tickets. All you need to do to enter is leave a comment below. Keep in mind this is a late night show that starts at 11pm and will jam into the wee hours of the morning. If you’re serious about rocking out all night long with Steve Kimock & Crazy Engine, drop a comment in below. I’ve heard Steve’s a pretty amazing guitarist to see live, so this should be something extra special given the small club feel of the Compound Grill.

I’ll pick a winner from the Comments section on Thursday. Good luck!

Can’t wait to see Kimock especially playing the aftershow. This is what Kimock is all about. I have see Kimock play many late night sets in Oregon and i must say “some of the best live shows on my list!!”!!!!!! Can’t afford the festival but would wash the band’s bus to get in!

Steve’s music is such an original sound. I’m so proud of the people at MMMF for getting this kind of artist to play in AZ. I hope that it is the beginning of many more after hours concert entertainment for Arizonians

I already have tickets to Sunday night! I’m looking forward to seeing Grace Potter, Trombone Shorty, and other bands. It would be FANTASTIC if I win these tickets! Then I could find me a hotel and spend the night Saturday and be ready to rock again Sunday. Thank you for the opportunity!

Since 2004, MMMF has introduced me to a number of bands that I hadn’t previously been familiar with, but that I have come to really appreciate and enjoy since. Steve Kimock and Crazy Engine is another example. While I have not heard or seen them before, I am anxious to check them out as MMMF has typically steered me toward new (to me) styles and sounds that I have liked.

I’m a working student, volunteering at the festival and unfortunately, I was just informed that volunteers are not invited into the late night show. I’m hoping to be there nonetheless, just need to find a way đŸ˜‰

I friggin love Kimock!!!!! I have been emailing the band for years trying to get them to come to Phoenix. Now they are finally here and we have MMMF to thank! THANKS MMMF from bringing all this great music here over the years. This will be my fourth MMMF.

    Looking good, folks.

I’ll be randomly selecting the winner tonight at about 8:00pm AZ time. Each comment here is numbered. I’ll have pieces of paper for each number thrown into a box. I’ll shake that sucker up and have my daughter select one. Entries are good all the way up to 8:00. Good luck!

My husband loves this dude and is extremely bummed because all we can afford is the babysitter. It would be an amazing gift if I could surpise him with tickets for SKCE. ROCK OUT!!!!

    And the winner is….
